ITDynamo "Identity Crisis"

Thursday, December 22, 2005

You, people visiting our website with regularity may have noticed that the look and feel of the site, as well as the topics we write and post here are constantly changing, and therefore may have felt confused about the site’s identity being altered.

ITDynamo.com started as a grassroots web site dedicated to career development, betterment of marketability, and to promoting a career “entrepreneurship” attitude amongst members of the Information Technology professional community in Toronto. We thought big but started small.

We have always felt how ironical it is that information professionals making career-change decisions don’t have sufficient… information. Probably because of being “techies”, we have at times been struggling to find the right information-related tools for career decision-making and for measuring the state of the local and global IT markets. Living in the age of the “Do-It-Yourself” economy and Web 2.0, we decided to create these tools by ourselves. Thus, we created the portal and our flagship tool, JobExposer - the first Canadian job search engine built on Really Simple Syndication (RSS) technology.

Getting deeper into the development of these tools, we realized that the technology we picked is much more powerful than we initially thought. As we got more involved in Web 2.0, generally, and RSS, in particular, we started applying our technology for innovative products called News Radars - highly focused topic-specific Web info channels leveraging the RSS technology. We also started honing some special skills in Newsmastering - crafting information for the News Radars.

That is how the RSS and Job Hunter Ammo Virtual Practices took off. We launched a couple of Radars dedicated to the Newsmastering craft and development of RSS for Enterprise, currently, a dozen more Radars are in the R&D and/or testing stage

Eventually, the Virtual Practices overgrew our site and now it is about time to give them new (virtual) homes. We are going to launch two new sites: one will be fully dedicated to News Radars and Newsmastering, and the other one will be an “all-Canadian-occupations” job search engine.

Now, we would like to be perceived as a "Web intelligence" company, offering innovative products and services to information-hungry customers, but this transformation will not change too much for our members and visitors.

We will keep maintaining our “grassroots” portal and JobExposer, because we never changed our mind as far as defining the career development as career “entrepreneurship”, which may turn into "real" entrepreneurship, as in our case, and we will keep carrying this message through our website.
