Social Newsmastering

Saturday, February 11, 2006

In our Web 2.0 Best of 2005 and Predictions for 2006 Digest blog article, we predicted that one of the fastest growing segments of Internet will be “social newsmastering”. We bet that you had never heard this term yet and we would be the first to coin it. Social Newsmastering would incorporate all Big Three trends outlined by New Media visionary Luigi Canali De Rossi a.k.a Robin Good: Information Filtering, Personal Search and Grassroots Participation.

Social Newsmatering would involve collaborative information aggregation, filtering and tracking for areas as different as Japanese swords, Pink Floyd or Harley-Davidson bikes. It would evolve into online communities the same way as del.icio.us sparked interest in Social Bookmarking and let people collaborate and share each other’s bookmarks. These communities would allow their members to share and contribute the news and own ideas.

Social Newsmastering has already came. For less than two months of this very young year, "socialnewsmastering" sites mashroomed at incredible pace. Feedbutler, Listible, PersonalBee, Newspage, representing different flavors of Social Newsmastering, just took off.

We are also working hard toward launching a new "social newsmastering" site - RadarFarms where information junkies will have an opportunity to newsmater and socialize.

Stay tuned!
